Some close-up / macro photos of weathered wood with a greyish patina:

(Just for anybody new here - you can download images by clicking on the prevs. and use them for free in your designs, but please don´t re-sell or re-distribute the photographs - these are free royalty-free stock images but not copyright-free photos).

Some wood, if not treated, developes through weather and sun a beautiful silver-grey patina, actually this surface is protective; I have see a wall made from raw Northern pine aging over 10 years, and although it was fully exposed to rain, wind and snow the wood was absolutely fine (it could always dry off completely, though).

The last stone wall texture post had some images left to be displayed, so for today I will continue with that and finish it before it gets boring… before you wonder why there are these endless stone photos on this page, remember that this web site is about stock images for designers, so I assume you are not just coming here for fun, but for downloads…

Some sort of grunge texture:

A rather complex old stone wall made from different materials:

Below photos of a quite colorful old stone wall which had to face some repairs over the years:

Here´s a rather dark background:

And a more light-colored version:

Plus a light-grey texture with some plastering:

Another colorful image with regular pattern of a wall made from big stones:

The next set of stock textures will not be about stones…

Here they are: Photo textures of colorful stone walls. As usual, you can download all those stock images for free by clicking on the low-res pictures (and use them in your designs, on your websites or as backgrounds of course, but please don´t re-distribute them. These are FREE ROYALTY-FREE IMAGES but not copyright-free images).

Some of the stone walls are ages old, some old but renewed, and some new with shiny stones, after all I could not say which ones I like best, so instead of editing tightly I decided to upload them all so you can go through and see what you need or find useful. Flocking through my photo archives, I found quite a few, so as a result this page may load a bit slow, so please be patient if downloading images takes a bit longer.

Look at these old stones, they have some stories to tell.

As stock photos should be by definition as universally usable as possible, there´s little or no sharpening applied to the images here. You may want to do that according to your needs. A web site background needs perhaps less crispy detail (with a positive effect on loading times).

Among all of them, this stone wall texture is perhaps the most useful in a designers photo archive:

While I like this one to:

A more close-up photo:

A plain and rather light texture for backgrounds:

And a darker one:

I´ll stop here for today to keep the loading times of this page manageable and will post the other half of this texture series the next days. The last image is of an old, dark-colored, grungy stone wall full of green plants:

Today - quickly - two stock photos of cracked concrete, before I start going through the stone wall textures promised here recently.

A builders nightmare, but handy in all sorts of designs, i.e. as website backgrounds…

I like the textures of stones and rocks not just for designs, but for their own sake. Weathered and aged, the surfaces often turn into very interesting colors. So here´s another set of free stock images; I may prepare an additional one dedicated to stone wall textures in the near future:

As a side note, from a photography point of view not many subject matters are as demanding on the equipment, esp. lens resolution and image processing techniques, as finely textured stone surfaces. They make excellent starting points for designs though (and good dark backgrounds, too).

I posted some grunge textures a few days ago, if you are still looking for more, you may want to download the following:

Well, this one is an example of how colorful a weathered stone can become:

Another colorful closeup photo:

If you are into rust metal textures, you may like this one (it is stone):

And the last photo for today (remember, in order to download the stock images, you have to click the low res pix):

I have posted some brick wall and stone textures before, but here is another and more comprehensive set of such stock photos:

As usual, you can download the high resolution images (for free) by clicking on the low-res pics. Natural brick wall textures contain quite a bit of detail, so downloading may be a bit slow.

From a design point of view - aren´t these colorful old brick walls beautiful?

The image below contains two rusty nails - thought I include it here among the textures, see what you can do with it:

(If you are looking for photos of rust or grunge textures btw, check out the free stock images of rusty metal.)

After some close-up photographs a few pictures of large brick walls - they make good backgrounds.

Many of the old brick walls here are built with handmade bricks; the last one of each day was usually marked by the worker (not sure what to make out of it, though):

Within a few miles, one comes along a huge color range with all different kinds of red:

Look at the variety of red color in this image:

A bit in the grunge category as well, today some aged wicker textures:

As usual, click to download the free stock image (I better mention it as there are designers coming here who flock through the pages but don´t seem to know how to download the photos).

A close-up wicker texture to add some vintage mood to your designs:

The following is not exactly wicker, but I thought I´ll add that woven fiber texture here too, makes nice backgrounds:

As usual you can download every stock image by clicking on the lower-resolution photos here. Today dark background textures of steel and grunge:

The design people visiting this web site the past days mainly had a fancy for metal textures, so I´ll try to get some more up the next days.

And another image in this GRUNGE series:

More metal textures: Two photo backgrounds of blue paint and rust (click to download free stock image).

And another photograph of a rusty metal chain (this image has some out of focus areas, which may be useful in a design regarding copy space, so see what you can do with it):

Because the designers coming here seem to like those metal textures, let´s continue with it:

And two more free stock images which make good backgrounds, similar color for some consistency in quick web site design.

(Click and download the hi-res photo.)
