Some wood, if not treated, developes through weather and sun a beautiful silver-grey patina, actually this surface is protective; I have see a wall made from raw Northern pine aging over 10 years, and although it was fully exposed to rain, wind and snow the wood was absolutely fine (it could always dry off completely, though).
